Corus Falls Silent

News coverage of today's 10th round at the Corus 2010 tournament was seriously disrupted by a loss of internet availability at the playing venue.  The official website is also currently down.  Perhaps the recent snow in the Netherlands has caused a few gremlins in the Wijk wires.  Or maybe all the IT engineers were busy following the announcement of the iPad!

However, the play continued unabated and Vladimir Kramnik finds himself in the sole lead after Alexei Shirov became the first player to lose to world champion Vishy Anand at this year's event.

It could so easily have been a different story, but time-trouble mistakes costs Shirov dear and Anand breathed a sigh of relief to take the full point.

Kramnik himself played a thrilling game with Vassily Ivanchuk, sacrificing a piece for a dangerous attack.  Ivanchuk was able to steer the game into the safety, but kudos to Kramnik for more enterprising play.

Magnus Carlsen bounced back from his loss to Kramnik yesterday to win against Sergey Karjakin.  Carlsen shocked everyone by choosing the French Defence for almost the first time in his career, and the experiment seemed to work!

The only other winner in the 'A' Group was Sergei Tiviakov who beat Jan Smeets.

Group B had a quiet day with most of the matches ending all-square.  In contrast, the 'C' Group gave us yet another bloodbath with Li Chao cementing his freshly won lead with another win, and Ray Robson losing for the second day in a row to fall one and a half points behind him.

Further details will hopefully be added when available {EDIT - full results can now be found at the official website, which is working again, and in the comments below}

Tomorrow is the last rest day, so round 11 is on Friday.
