Dominguez Takes Full Point Lead Into Last Round

The game between Dominguez and Carlsen (pictured) lived up to it's billing as Carlsen tried the Accelerated Dragon, producing an exciting an unbalanced tactical game.  Dominguez rose to the challenge and perhaps 27.Nxh5 could even have brought victory, but in the end a draw was agreed.

Dominguez now needs just a draw with the Black pieces in his final game with Bacrot to win the tournament outright.  Will the Frenchman accomodate him with a quick draw?  We shall see...

Pelletier earned another draw today - this time against Bacrot in a 22-move effort, but is still stuck firmly at the bottom of the leaderboard.

For Onischuk, however, his bright start to the tournament is now a distant memory as he continued his dismal run to lose for the third time in the last four rounds; this time to Alekseev.

The final round is tomorrow (31 July) when Carlsen will face Onischuk, Alekseev takes on Pelletier, and Bacrot challenges Dominguez.

The results in round 9:

Dominguez Perez, Leinier - Carlsen, Magnus ½-½ 52 B35 Sicilian Defence
