The Dortmund tournament got underway today, with 9-time winner Vladimir Kramnik getting off to a winning start.

Kramnik beat recently crowned Ukrainian champion Ruslan Ponomariov in a King's Indian.

In the other games Hikaru Nakamura and Anish Giri fought out a lively draw, and local hopeful Georg Meier drew with Le Quang Liem.

The tournament runs from 21-31 July, with 26 July being a rest day.  Games start at 3pm local time, except the final round which starts 2 hours earlier.
