Dzagnidze leads GP in JermukNana Dzagnidze has reached an historic score at the 4th FIDE Women Grand Prix in Jermuk, Armenia. The Georgian grandmaster is on 7.5/8, already 1.5 points ahead of the rest of the field with three rounds to play. Her tournament performance rating is as high as 2921 - not bad for a player rated 2478!

The 4th FIDE Women Grand Prix tournament takes place June 23 - July 6 in Jermuk, Armenia. Hou Yifan (CHN, 2589), Antoaneta Stefanova (BUL, 2560), Pia Cramling (SWE, 2536), Tatiana Kosintseva (RUS, 2534), Maia Chiburdanidze (GEO, 2514), Xu Yuhua (CHN, 2484), Nana Dzagnidze (GEO, 2478), Lilit Mkrtchian (ARM, 2477), Elina Danielian (ARM, 2473), Shen Yang (CHN, 2452), Baira Kovanova (RUS, 2366) and Martha Fierro (ECU, 2363) play. More info, also on the FIDE Women GP in general, can be found in our first report.

Rounds 5-8

We already knew that Nana Dzagnidze started strongly in Jermuk: 3.5/4. Quite amazingly, she added four more wins, reaching a devastating 7.5/8. With three rounds to go the Georgian grandmaster is 1.5 points ahead of the winner of the previous GP: Tatiana Kosintseva from Russia. Hou Yifan (China) and Lilit Mkrtchian (Armenia) share third place with 5/8.

We've come to get accustomed to male top players reaching 2900 TPRs, but for a female player with a rating in the 2400s it's quite amazing. It's a coincidence, but Dzagnidze hasn't met any of the Chinese participants yet. Perhaps they can stop her? Especially the last round, with Dzagnidze-Hou Yifan, could be interesting.
