Dzagnidze at 2921 performance in Jermuk
Nana Dzagnidze has reached an historic score at the 4th FIDE Women Grand Prix in Jermuk, Armenia. The Georgian grandmaster is on 7.5/8, already 1.5 points ahead of the rest of the field with three rounds to play. Her tournament performance rating is as high as 2921 - not bad for a player rated 2478!The 4th FIDE Women Grand Prix tournament takes place June 23 - July 6 in Jermuk, Armenia. We already knew that Nana Dzagnidze started strongly in Jermuk: 3.5/4. Quite amazingly, she added four more wins, reaching a devastating 7.5/8. With three rounds to go the Georgian grandmaster is 1.5 points ahead of the winner of the previous GP: Tatiana Kosintseva from Russia. Hou Yifan (China) and Lilit Mkrtchian (Armenia) share third place with 5/8.We've come to get accustomed to male top players reaching 2900 TPRs, but for a female player with a rating in the 2400s it's quite amazing. It's a coincidence, but Dzagnidze hasn't met any of the Chinese participants yet. Perhaps they can stop her? Especially the last round, with Dzagnidze-Hou Yifan, could be interesting.
