Erwin L’Ami Wins In Delft
Easter is a busy time for chess tournaments around the globe, but these events were overshadowed this year by the attention focused on the Candidates Tournament.
One of those Easter tournaments was the 6th OGD Prinsenstad Tournament in the historic town of Delft in the Netherlands. Held from 29-31 March, the main tournament was a 6-round Open of 56 players, with Erwin L'Ami taking first place by a full point with a score of 5½/6.
L'Ami won his first 5 games and drew a very hard-fought struggle with British grandmaster Stewart Haslinger in the final round to ensure his tournament victory (see below).
A total of 7 players finished a point behind on 4½/6, with tie-break scores deciding second place for top seed Jan Smeets, third for Dimitri Reinderman, and fourth for Stewart Haslinger himself.
