Exciting Play At Linares
Round three at Linares provided three great games and a whole lot of excitement!
Topalov (pictured) tried the Benoni against Aronian, but it was the Armenian who gained the upper hand, obtaining mighty connected passed pawns on d5 and e5.
Topalov hung on with all the tactical tricks he could muster to salvage a draw.
Vallejo Pons played a remarkable Queen sacrifice against Gelfand, but the Israeli GM returned the material soon after and held on for a draw.
Alexander Grischuk opted for the Sicilian Poisoned Pawn against Gashimov, but the fires burned out into a drawn ending.
