Gashimov Wins Reggio Emilia
The historic city of Reggio Emilia in Italy has hosted an annual chess tournament since 1958, held over each New Year.
The 2010/11 edition ran from 28 Dec - 6 Jan and produced some sparkling chess, with the Azerbaijani Vugar Gashimov (pictured) emerging as the tournament winner.
Francisco Vallejo Pons also had a strong showing, but just missed out by virtue of a weaker tie-break score. Gashimov's only loss was a wild first round defeat to Nigel Short. The Englishman won his first two hair-raising games, but slumped to a poor result overall.
