Grischuk Defeats Topalov In Linares

The penultimate round of the Linares 2010 super-GM tournament saw a titanic struggle between the leader Veselin Topalov and his closest pursuer, Alexander Grischuk.

A dynamic and exciting game ended in victory for Grischuk, who therefore catches Topalov on a score of 5.5/9 with just one round to go.  The other games were drawn.

The standings after nine round are:

The 10th and final round takes place tomorrow (Wednesday) and will feature Topalov v Gelfand, Vallejo v Grischuk and Aronian v Gashimov.  www.chess.com/tv will have live coverage of the round by Grandmaster Jesse Kraai, beginning at 8:30 AM Pacific.
