Henrique Mecking plays again

In 1973 the Brazilian Chess Grandmaster Henrique Mecking was ranked 3rd in the World, only headed by the greats Anatoly Karpov and Viktor Korchnoi.  The strength of his play at a young age even drew comparisons with Bobby Fischer.

However, Mecking didn't quite get a shot at the World Championship title and since the late 1970's his participation in chess at the highest levels has been curtailed by a long illness.

So it is happy news that Mecking will be playing again in a short match starting on the 16th April against the Israeli GM Alon Geenfield in the city of Passo Fundo, Brazil.
