Vassily Ivanchuk lost his third game in a row at the 2011/12 Reggio Emilia tournament in the only decisive game of the seventh round.

To be fair to Ivanchuk, it was his third game in a row with black, but he blundered horribly to lose a piece to Nikita Vitiugov and resigned immediately.

Otherwise, it was a quieter round with clear leader Hikaru Nakamura drawing comfortably with black against Fabiano Caruana in 21 moves, while Alexander Morozevich and Anish Giri repeated moves for a draw after only 17 moves.

The standings after seven of ten rounds (3-1-0 scoring)

 Nakamura, Hikaru  USA 2758 15
 Morozevich, Alexander  RUS 2762 11
 Giri, Anish  NED 2714 9
 Caruana, Fabiano  ITA 2727 8
 Ivanchuk, Vassily  UKR 2775 8
 Vitiugov, Nikita  RUS 2729 5
