King's TournamentVassily Ivanchuk won the Kings Tournament in Bazna after drawing quickly with Radjabov in the last round. The Ukrainian finished on 7/10, unreachable for his closest rival Boris Gelfand, who eventually finished a point behind the winner after drawing with Kamsky. Shirov ended his tournament with a nice victory over Nisipeanu.

The 3rd Kings Tournament, a six-player round-robin with Radjabov, Ivanchuk, Shirov, Gelfand, Kamsky and Nisipeaniu, takes place June 14-25 in Bazna, Romania.

Round 10

16:14 CET: Vassily Ivanchuk won the Kings Tournament outright since even when Gelfand beats Kamsky with Black, he won't be able to catch the Ukrainian anymore. A new success for Ivanchuk who admitted that after the M-Tel Masters in Sofia, where he lost so many rating points, he was tired indeed.

However, immediately afterwards he went playing two rapidplay events: a match against Navara which he won, and a knockout tournament in Le??n where he lost to Carlsen in the final.

Apparently having taken enough rest at classical chess, Ivanchuk went straight to Romania where his form was back to where it should be, which was enough to prove the strongest among the six players. In the mean time Radjabov played one of his most "solid" tournaments ever, scoring 9 draws and 1 win against Kamsky.

Update 17:23: Gelfand drew with Kamsky and so Ivanchuk finished clear first, a full point ahead of the Israeli grandmaster. Shirov ended his tournament with a nice victory over Nisipeanu. Thanks to a positional exchange sacrifice on d6, White could keep Black's king and queen's rook (and in fact also the queen's bishop) passive bystanders. The h-pawn was not easy to stop and despite giving back the exchange, in timetrouble Nisipeanu couldn't prevent the loss of big material.
