The 13th Poikovsky Tournament in honour of Anatoly Karpov took place from 28 September - 7 October in Russia.

The tournament has had less media coverage than its strength might suggest, partly due to it clashing with several other big tournaments, and partly due to its own poor publicity.

The tournament was a 10-player single round-robin and Dmitry Jakovenko took first place with an undefeated score of 6/9, followed by top seed Ruslan Ponomariov in second with 5½/9.  England's Nigel Short had a disappointing tournament, finishing last with 3 points.
