Anatoly Karpov is playing a tournament. And that by itself is already good news. The former world champion is not very active anymore as a chess player (all the more as an ambassador, parent and business man, we learnt from the interview in February) but yesterday he started playing his first round-robin tournament with classical time control since Essent 2003. And it was a special game for one more reason: as in the old days, Karpov started with 1.e4!

Karpov is playing the Gorenje 2007 in the town of Valjevo (Serbia) together with GM Kiril Georgiev, GM Michael Roiz, GM Predrag Nikolic, GM Ivan Ivanisevic, GM Branko Damljanovic, GM Suat Atalik, GM Dusko Pavasovic, GM Viorel Iordachescu and IM Mihajlo Stojanovic. The guys of Chessdom are responsible for the press coverage of the tournament and so far they're doing a great job.
