Lahno and Tiviakov Champions in Plovdiv

Kateryna Lahno (pictured) drew her final round game against Anna Ushenina to win the Women's Individual European Championship 2008 with 8.5/11.  Congratulations Kateryna on your success!

Yelena Dembo won again in her final game to join a tie with 6 other people on 8/11.  Well done Yelena! There will now be tie-breaks for the minor places.  The table before the tie-breaks looks like this.

The men's title went to Sergei Tiviakov (pictured) of Russia with 8.5/11, now playing for the Netherlands.  Whilst other players meekly agreed quick 'Grandmaster' draws in the final round, he played hard and was rewarded for his efforts by beating Emil Sutovsky of Israel to win by half a point from the rest of the field.
