Kurnosov Wins 2011 Politiken Cup

igor-kurnosov.JPGRussian GM Igor Kurnosov (pictured) won the 2011 Politiken Cup in Helsingør, Denmark with a score of 8½/10.

The competition was a 10 round Swiss event running from 30 July - 7 August which attracted a field more than 300 strong with over 20 GMs.

Top seed and Danish #1 Peter Heine Nielsen finished half a point adrift from the winner, along with four others.

Kurnosov took home the first prize of 20,000 kr (approx 3,800 USD).  A prize for best game of the event was shared between Jonny Hector of Sweden and Lars Meier of Germany (see games below).

The rate of play was 90 min for 40 moves, then 30 min to finish with a 30 second increment from the start.
