For the first time in the 2008 Women's World Championship in Nalchik, no tie-breaks were needed in the latest round.

The 2004 champion Antoaneta Stefanova is out after losing to the experienced Swedish player Pia Cramling (pictured).  Tough luck Eti!  Shen Yang's good run also came to an end at the hands of the favourite Humpy Koneru.  Alexandra Kosteniuk is still in the hunt for the title after beating Anna Ushenina and 14 year-old Hou Yifan would be a remarkable winner if she can make it all the way after beating Lilt Mrtkchian of Armenia.

The results of the quarter finals were:

Alexandra Kosteniuk (RUS) 1.5 0.5 Anna Ushenina (UKR)
Pia Cramling (SWE) 1.5 0.5 Antoaneta Stefanova (BUL)
Hou Yifan (CHN) 1.5 0.5 Lilit Mkrtchian (ARM)
Humpy Koneru (IND) 2.0 0.0 Shen Yang (CHN)

The title is there for the taking.  Kosteniuk will play Cramling and Humpy will play Yifan (pictured below) in the semi-finals.  Good luck to them all!
