Hot on the heels of the Ivanchuk v Navara rapid match in Prague comes another rapid match, this one between Peter Leko (pictured) and Vishy Anand in Miskolc, Hungary.

This will be the fifth annual rapid match for Peter Leko in his home country against a variety of high-class opponents.  Here is his record from previous years:

2005: drew Michael Adams 4-4
2006: beat Anatoly Karpov 4.5-3.5
2007: lost Vladimir Kramnik 3.5-4.5
2008: lost Magnus Carlsen 3-5

This year's match with the world champion Vishy Anand takes place from 2-7 June.  Following the same format as previous years, there will be 8 games in total, with 2 games on Wed 3, Thurs 4, Sat 6, and Sun 7 June.  The first day, 2 June sees the opening ceremony and draw for colours, and Friday 5 June is a rest day.

The rate of play is 25 minutes plus a 10 second increment.  In the event of a 4-4 tie there will be a blitz tie-break.

The official site will be broadcasting all the games live each day at 4:30 pm and 6pm local time (CET).

Anand is a great rapid player, so Leko will have an even more difficult challenge than last year's encounter with Magnus Carlsen.  Reports of that match can be found here: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4.  The decisive game 7 from the last day is shown below.  Will Leko fare better against Anand?
