Linares.jpgThe Spanish newspaper Diario Jaen reports that the 2012 edition of the famous Linares tournament is cancelled.

After the 2011 tournament was sadly cancelled, there had been hopeful noises from the organisers that the 'Wimbeldon of Chess' would return in March/April 2012, but it was not to be.

The technical director Francisco Fernández Albalate stated that the problem was not an economic one, but rather a lack of suitable dates.

Some previous editions had been split between two venues, and the plans for 2012 had entailed Linares sharing hosting duties with Mexico but the talks were unsuccessful.
