Nakamura Wins May 4 Titled Tuesday
GM Hikaru Nakamura won the May 4 Titled Tuesday on tiebreaks, his third win in his last three attempts (while playing the New In Chess Classic on April 27 instead). GM Haik Martirosyan finished second and GM Bogdan-Daniel Deac third, all on 9.5/11. Of seven players on 9/11, GM Vincent Keymer had the best tiebreaker score to finish fourth.
666 titled players participated in this week's Titled Tuesday tournament. As usual, it was an 11-round Swiss with a 3+1 time control.

Much of the tournament was decided in the tenth round, which began with five players on 8/9. Nakamura defeated GM Andrew Tang and Martirosyan toppled GM Vladimir Onischuk to enter round 11 as the only players on 9/10. Nakamura and Martirosyan would hold their top two spots in the final round by drawing with each other, with Nakamura holding the much better tiebreaker score.
It was also Nakamura who had the game of the tournament in round eight, sacrificing his queen twice—with 31.Qc4 and 33.Qxf1+—to set up a forced checkmate on GM Vladimir Dobrov.
He needed it, too. GM Giga Quparadze, who ultimately finished just out of the prize money in fifth place, dealt Nakamura a blow in round seven. It was Nakamura's first loss in a Titled Tuesday game in more than a month, since round 10 on March 30.
Beac, who scored 5.5 points in the last six rounds, only jumped into third place in the final round, with a victory over GM Aleksandar Indjic.
