Hello Android Team!

We are super excited to announce that a few days ago, on 9/30/19 we released a new Android version to BETA. It took one year, thousands of tickets, crazy dev and product effort to have this app see the light of day. At this point it's far from perfect but hey - BETA testers should be ok with that. Details on how to join Android BETA are here. Now, here is whats new

New Analysis

We have completely new analysis which has similar experience as web. (not yet available on iOS, haha ).  Variety of different features in there such as quick blunder check on the end game modal, full game report including recommended lessons and puzzles, retry mistakes option, etc. Full analysis is now available in seconds compared to 3 minute full analysis from before. Some screenshots are below.

New Puzzles (including Rush!)

Yeah, you heard it right, you can now play Puzzle Rush on Android and of course you can choose from different mods - 3min, 5min and survival. Regular puzzle (Tactics) experience is revamped too - we hope you like it.

New Lessons

Our whole new lessons experience is now available on Android - a couple of screenshots are below.

ChessTV

Finally we have ChessTV on Android as well. Now you can watch coverage for chess events, follow your favorite chess streamers and more!

New Vision and Drills

Vision and Drills got upgraded as well. We have the new UI/UX, and Drills are structured in a more meaningful way to help you improve your chess skills even faster!

New Home and UI

The change that you will notice right from the start is our new Home and navigation approach. Your favorite features such as Lessons and Puzzles are now one tap away while Connect and More tabs contain all the other features.

Accessing V4 in Beta

To access BETA, go to official Chess.com app listing on GooglePlay Store. From there you can scroll down and you will find an option to join Beta. Once you join, the signup process will take a few minutes and voilà - you got access to all these cool new features.

Opting out of Beta and switching to stable version

As we mentioned previously, this version has certain issues and if you prefer to go back to a stable release (Android V3), please follow these steps

  1. Uninstall the Chess.com app
  2. Go to GooglePlay Store. listing and opt out from Beta at the bottom
  3. Download the app again and enjoy stable release

Help, support, suggestions and bug reports

There are different ways to do this and we appreciate any of them.

  1. Navigate to Chess.com web page, click help in the bottom left and Report a bug/Suggest
  2. Write us on support@chess.com
  3. Straight from the "More" tab in the app (In progress, should be available soon)
