Nisipeanu Hits Back in Medias
Local favourite Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu (pictured) recovered from his disappointing loss in round two to beat Vassily Ivanchuk in round three of the Bazna Kings tournament.
Elsewhere, Teimour Radjabov had more luck with the QGD than Nakamura in the first round, comfortably holding Magnus Carlsen to a draw.
Nakamura used the Sicilian Najdorf against Sergey Karjakin, and although there were no fireworks, he drew the game without too much trouble. At the moment, his mind seems to be more on hockey than chess!
The standings after three rounds:
Carlsen, Magnus | NOR | 2815 | 2 |
Ivanchuk, Vassily | UKR | 2776 | 1½ |
Karjakin, Sergey | RUS | 2776 | 1½ |
Nakamura, Hikaru | USA | 2774 | 1½ |
Nisipeanu, Liviu-Dieter | ROU | 2659 | 1½ |
Radjabov, Teimour | AZE | 2744 | 1 |
