In a press release the participants of the Mtel Masters 2007 have been announced. Six strong GMs will play in the tournament that starts May 9 in Sofia. The chess fans will see the no. 1 in the world ranking (in May the no. 2) Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria, 2783), the European Champion for 2005 Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu (Romania, 2689), the former World Junior Champion Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan, 2754), the two World Championship finalists Gata Kamsky (USA, 2705) and Michael Adams (UK, 2735), as well as the young Indian hope Krishnan Sasikiran (IND, 2700).

"Together with the experienced chess fighters we invited the promising young talents Mamedyarov and Sasikiran. We hope this will make the competition exciting," shared Silvio Danailov. "The average ELO of the participants is 2727 and the competition is category XX."

The tournament will start May 9 and will continue until May 20. The President of Bulgaria, Georgi Parvanov, will be the patron of Mtel Masters 2007. The six players will compete in "Sofia Hall" of the five-star Grand Hotel Sofia. The tournament is a double round robin. In case of equal score after the last round a tiebreak will be played. As before, Sofia Rule will be strictly applied. The players will not be allowed to offer draws, the decision is taken by the Chief-Arbiter.

On the rest day (May 19) Veselin Topalov will play chess in the park in front of Grand Hotel Sofia. As last year, fans will have the chance to take part in the game "Guess Topalov's move". Special guest will be last year's winner, the Italian Alex Bunetti. He guessed 209 moves of Topalov in Mtel Masters 2006!
