To celebrate the start of the holiday shopping season, Chess.com is giving all members 24 hours of free access to Puzzle Battle, an exciting new game pitting two players against each other to solve as many chess puzzles as possible.

The 24 hours of Puzzle Battle will start at midnight Pacific time on "Black Friday," Nov. 29, and run until 11:59:59 p.m. Pacific time the same day.

Be sure to check Twitch.tv/Chess on Nov. 29 to see which chess personalities are streaming their personal Puzzle Battles.

In addition to the unlimited Puzzle Battle jubilee for all members, the highest-scoring player on the Nov. 29 daily Puzzle Battle leaderboard will earn an automatic entry into a Puzzle Battle World Championship qualification tournament next month.

The rules of Puzzle Battle are simple:

  • Solve as many puzzles as you can in the given amount of time.
  • Each puzzle gets harder as you go.
  • Three strikes and you’re out.
  • Solve more puzzles than your opponent to win.
  • You and your opponent receive the same puzzles in the same order—so no excuses!

You can play as much Puzzle Battle as you'd like on Nov. 29 for fun, but if you think you've got what it takes to compete in the championship, you'll have to reach the top of the daily leaderboard Nov. 29.

To check your spot on the Nov. 29 leaderboard, go to Puzzle Battle, then click "leaderboard," then "daily" to see the current leaders.

The top daily scorer at the end of Nov. 29 will receive an entry to one of the two Puzzle Battle World Championship qualifying tournaments in December. The two winners of those tournaments will join some of the world's best chess players and puzzle solvers in the $10,000 championship field of 16 in January.

Even if you don't win the Nov. 29 qualification, you can still qualify for the Puzzle Battle World Championship play-in tournaments by making an eligible video or stream.

To begin the video qualification process, you must do all of the following:

  1. Stream or record a three-minute Puzzle Rush with a score of 35 or more. The streamed (or recorded) clip must include a full-screen capture and a webcam where the user is fully visible for the duration of the clip. The cursor must be visible on screen for the duration of the clip.
  2. Share your video on Twitter or Facebook with the hashtag #PuzzleBattle. The Chess.com social team must then certify your post. If you're sharing on Facebook, you must also tag Chess.com in the post.
  3. Have a clean fair-play record. By submitting an entry, you agree to have your games analyzed by the Chess.com fair play team.

For more information on qualification requirements, see the official rules here.

The video qualification process began on Friday, Nov. 22 and will end on Sunday, Dec. 15.
