Russia beats China 130.5-119.5 in traditional match

Russia-ChinaIn their annual match, Russia beat China 130.5-119.5 this year. On home ground, Dagomys (Sochi), the Russians were the strongest over 5 classical games, 10 rapid games and 10 blitz games.

The traditional match between Russia and China took place August 14th-24th in Dagomys, Sochi. The match was split between a men's match and a women's match, both over five boards. For Russia Malakhov, Tomashevsky, Vitiugov, Nepomniachtchi, Timofeev, the Kosintseva sisters, Tairova, Romanko and Gunina played; the Chinese came to Dagomys with Wang Yue, Bu Xiangzhi, Ni Hua, Zhou Jianchao, Ding Liren, Ju Wenjun, Huang Qian, Xu Yuhua, Shen Yang and Zhao Xue.

In the classical time control the Russian men beat their Chinese opponents 13 to 12, and in the rapid and blitz the margins were even bigger: 29 to 21 (rapid) and 30 to 20 (blitz). The Chinese women made the score bearable by beating the Russian ladies 13.5-11.5 in the classical games and 28-22 in the blitz; the rapid match was tied 25-25.
