Second FIDE Grand Prix Tournament
Following on from the successful first FIDE Grand Prix event in Baku, which was held in April/May and was jointly won by Vugar Gashimov, Wang Yue and Magnus Carlsen, we now have the second event of the Grand Prix in Sochi, Russia (For a recap on the Grand Prix rules look here).
The event will take place from 30 July - 15 August and Gashimov and Yue are back along with another 12 top players (many of whom also played in Baku) headed by the ratings favourite, Vassily Ivanchuk (pictured):

Can Yue and Gashimov upset the field again? Will Gata Kamsky improve on his 9th place finish in Baku? Will Alexander Grischuk stop playing poker long enough to win at chess this time? Who exactly IS Mohamad Al Modiahki? Just kidding, he's Qatar's first Grandmaster and is married to top female player Zhu Chen. Good luck Mohamad, you may just need it.
