Sigeman & Co Tournament
If the Anand v Leko match and the Poikovsky Tournament aren't enough to satisfy your chess appetite, then fear not, the 17th Sigeman & Co Tournament is underway in Malmo, Sweden.
The Sigeman tournament runs from 3-7 June and top seed is England's Nigel Short (pictured). Aged 43, Nigel is a less frequent competitor nowadays, but with this year's tournament having a new format featuring just 6 players and 5 rounds it's unlikely to test his stamina!
The full line-up is:
Nigel Short (ENG) | 2674 |
Ivan Sokolov (BIH) | 2669 |
Tomi Nyback (FIN) | 2655 |
Tiger Hillarp Persson (SWE) | 2618 |
Emanuel Berg (SWE) | 2610 |
Nils Grandelius (SWE) | 2491 |
Games start at 2pm local time (last round 12pm), using the time control 40 moves in 2 hours, followed by 20 moves in an hour, and then 30 minutes to a finish.

Hillarp Persson is the defending champion from 2008, but many neutrals will be wishing 16-year old IM Nils Grandelius the best of luck.
Short and Sokolov won their first round games against Berg and Hillarp Persson respectively with Grandelius holding Nyback to a draw. The official site has profiles of the players, lots of nice photos, and live coverage of the games.
