Sokolov Wins Essent Crown Group

The World Chess Championship naturally overshadowed other events taking place at around the same time, one of which was the Essent tournament in the Netherlands which took place from 17-25 October.

The 'Crown Group' event in Essent was a 4-player double round-robin event and, as is traditional, the field consisted of a top male player (Ivan Sokolov - pictured), a top female player (Marie Sebag), a World Junior Champion (Ahmed Adly) and a top Dutch player (Jan Smeets).

Ivan Sokolov ran away with the first prize, finishing undefeated on 5/6.
