hotel Habana RivieraVassily Ivanchuk is showing his class at the Capablanca Memorial, taking place this week in Havana. In the 6 player double round robin with also Evgeny Bareev, Kamil Miton, Jesus Nogueiras, Lenier Dominguez and Lazaro Bruzon he tops the field with 3,5 points after 4 rounds.

Ivanchuk at the Turin OlympiadNormally the Capablanca Memorial is played during the spring, but because of the Turin Olympiad it's now taking place 19-30 November in hotel Habana Riviera in the Cuban capital.

Ivanchuk's second round game had a nice finish. His opponent, Jesus Nogueiras, had entered the tournament at the last minute after Ruben Felgaer had cancelled his participation because of personal reasons (like Morozevich at Corus).

Nogueiras is an experienced player who can play some chess; in the first round he immediately beat Bareev. Ivanchuk was a bit too strong however.
