King's TournamentAlthough again all games ended in a draw, the 4th round of the Kings Tournament in Bazna was a good one. Gelfand came very close to beating Kamsky while Ivanchuk probably also missed a win in his game against Radjabov.

The 3rd Kings Tournament, a six-player round-robin with Radjabov, Ivanchuk, Shirov, Gelfand, Kamsky and Nisipeaniu, takes place June 14-25 in Bazna, Romania.

Round 4

Despite three peaceful results we can't complain about round 4 in Bazna. A well-prepared Ivanchuk, who came up with a strong novelty in the Sicilian Four Knights, got a huge advantage in an ending against Radjabov. It was both the Ukrainian's timetrouble and the Azerbaijani's active counterplay that prevented White from winning.

In his game against Kamsky, Gelfand showed the instructive plan of exchanging Black's dark-squared bishop and then putting pressure on f6 with both rooks and queen. It should have been winning to, but the American also had a narrow escape!

The game between the two magicians Nisipeanu and Shirov was a bit disappointing, despite White's new idea at move 9. After the game Shirov said: ‚ÄúI felt that 9.Bd5 is a typical novelty ?† la Nisipeanu ‚Äì he doesn‚Äôt necessarily aim for an opening advantage, but forces me to consume my time and play very accurately. I also realized that with precise play Black should hold equality and it is very likely that after massive exchanges the game will end in a draw. And this is what happened in the game‚Äù.
