Topalov v Kamsky Match Is Back On
After endless delays, open letters and broken promises, agreement has finally been reached on a venue for the long awaited match between Veselin Topalov (pictured) from Bulgaria and Gata Kamsky of the US. The full press release from FIDE is below.
Kamsky has apparently parted company with his manager Oleksander Chernenko, who promised a bigger prize fund to hold the match in Lvov, Ukraine, but failed to come up with the money.
The winner of the match will be the next challenger to take on Vishy Anand fot the World Chess Championship.
FIDE press release regarding the Challenger Match between Veselin Topalov- Gata Kamsky
Today Tuesday 18th November, FIDE is pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached for the organization of the Challenger Match between Topalov and Kamsky.
The match will take place in Sofia (Bulgaria) from 16 to 28 February 2009 and a prize fund of USD 250 000 will be shared equally by the players.
Discussions included also, inter alia, match regulations, security, conditions of fair play, hospitality, supervision of the match, transportation.
Both teams agreed on the appointment of IA Ignatius Leong ( Singapore) and Ashot Vardapetian (Armenia) as arbiters and Mr Hall Bond ( Canada) as Match Supervisor.
Furthermore GM Kamsky informed the participants of the meeting that Mr Alexander Chernenko is no longer representing him.
FIDE is happy to state that the meeting with both delegations has taken place in a very friendly and constructive atmosphere. FIDE thanks both teams for their exceptional cooperation and their readiness to settle all differences that surrounded the preparation of the agreement.
