Turkish Isbank Chess League startedPavel Eljanov, Rustam Kasimdzhanov, Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu and Ernesto Inarkiev are the strongest players in the Turkish Isbank Chess League, which started this week in Konya, Turkey. WGM Anastasiya Karlovich is in Konya and sent us a first report.

The Turkish Isbank Chess League takes place in the Konya-Hilton Garden Inn Hotel from June 28th till July 9th, 2011. This year 276 players from 14 clubs participate in the event.

The Turkish Team Championship (1st Chess League) appeared in 1995. It changed the name to Super League in 2004 but after the sponsorship of Turkish Is Bank, the name was changed again in to Turkish Is Bank Chess League in 2006.

36 grandmasters and 86 title players in total are present in Konya right now. Top boards are represented by such strong players as GM Pavel Eljanov (UKR, ELO 2712), GM Rustam Kasimdzhanov (UZB, ELO 2685), GM Ernesto Inarkiev (RUS, ELO 2679), GM Liviu Dieter Nisipeanu (ROU, ELO 2662), GM Evgenij Miroshnichenko (UKR, ELO 2651), GM Boris Savchenko (RUS, ELO 2630), GM Mikheil Mchedlishvili (GEO, ELO 2629) and others.

Each team consists of 10 boards: the first four boards of every team are the titled players, followed by a female athlete, a junior player, U16 boy and girl tables, and U14 boy and girl tables. The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves + 30 minutes to the end of the game and 30 seconds increment.

Yapi Kredi Sport Club (Mikhail Gurevich on the first board) and Isek Aquamatch Sport Club (led by Rustam Kasimdzhanov) won all matches and lead with 8 match points followed by Manisa Doruk College Chess Club (led by Boris Savchenko) and Mersin Ezgi Chess Club (led by Nidjat Mamedov).
