The French Defense (1. e4 e6) has long had a reputation of being a solid and reliable answer to the King's-pawn opening. While many books leave the student dazed with variation after variation and ideas that are easy to get confused, in this new, online video series, the young American GM Varuzhan Akobian - who himself is a life-long devotee of the French - outlines a reliable repertoire for facing major lines such as the Exchange, Classical, Tarrasch and sidelines - and with the added connection by being from his own practical experience of using them at the highest level.
