Vaughan wins $50,000 2008 Fischer memoral/ACA US Open

WCF World Grand Master Stan Vaughan went 12-0 to top the 255 player field at the $50,000 American Chess Association's US Open October 11-13 in Las Vegas (www.americanchessassociation.org). Vaughan captured the $6,000 first place cash prize and in addition earned an additional $5,000 making his victory worth $11,000. The top finishing US Citizen each year earns the right to challenge the defending ACA US Champion, which title Vaughan had retained in 2007 as the highest finishing American then with an 11-1 2nd place finish then to Akobian of Armenia who won last year's event.
