Welcome at Chessvibes

Welcome at Chessvibes! We start the new year with a surprise: a new name and at a new domain. This is all because of the growing number of non-Dutch visitors. Over the borders, Chessvibes sounds better and it's probably a bit easier to remember as well.

I also switched to a new provider. During the testing period I was very positive at first, because everything went smoothly and the site simply loads a lot quicker. But last week chessvibes was completely down for a total period of about two days, because of server errors. After a lot of testing and research they discovered that a RAM module in the server was broken. This piece of random access memory has now been replaced. It seems like everything is OK now.

Now for the really good news. I made the site broader; now the full 1000 pixels width (quite standard these days) is used. The grey side column is broader and sees some new features. Firstly, there will be a daily puzzle. The solutions of these combinations will be published the day after. Below there's a daily trivia post: which well-known players celebrate their birthday, who passed away on that date, and some other facts. These two posts are refreshed automatically every day at twelve at night. Both the daily puzzles and the trivia posts are articles that won't be between the regular posts, but you can click on them and then they will be a normal post on the left.

Also in the grey column you now find a poll. The first one naturally had to be about the Corus Tournament! After several requests, I decided to put back my external links at the front page. You'll find them on the lower right, in the yellow column.

At this moment you won't find the recente headlines of big chess sites. They will probably return soon but meanwhile I'm thinking about something similar.
