Women's World Championship Second Round Underway
The second round of matches in the Women's World Chess Championship got underway today in Khanty-Mansiysk.
Reigning champion and top seed Hou Yifan won her first game against Monika Socko with the black pieces to put herself in a strong position in the 2-game match.
In contrast, second seed Humpy Koneru lost with the white pieces to Natalia Zhukova and now faces a must-win game tomorrow with black to stay in the competition.

The championship runs from 11 November - 2 December, with each round consisting of 2-game matches (4 in the final) between the players drawn against one another. Tied matches are decided by rapid and blitz tie-break games.
