Elisabeth Paehtz is a grandmaster, a former girl's youth world champion, and currently the top-rated female player in Germany (as of December 2022). Paehtz's first notable achievement came in 1994 when she won the U-11 German championship. She won the Women's German Championship in the adult section five years later.

In 2002, Paehtz won the World's Youth Championship in the girl's U-18 category and three years later she won the World Junior Girls Championship. Paehtz also won the 2018 European Women's Rapid Championship and finished in third place during the 2019 Women's European Individual Chess Championship. She scored her third GM norm a the 2021 FIDE Chess.com Grand Swiss and was awarded the GM title in November 2022 by FIDE.
