Alexander Areshchenko is a Ukrainian grandmaster and the 2005 Ukrainian Chess Champion. Prior to winning the national championship at just 19 years old, he won the U14 division of the World Youth Chess Championships in 2000, ahead of future GM Wang Yue. Areshchenko won individual silver at the 2007 European Team Chess Championship and is ranked in the top-50 players in the world (as of March 2021).
