Evgeny Bareev is a Russian-born Canadian grandmaster who reached number four in the world in 2003. The under-16 world champion in 1982, Bareev won the prestigious Wijk aan Zee tournament in 2002 and was a candidate for the classical world championship in 2002.

Bareev transferred from Russia to Canada in 2015 and is that nation's highest-rated player (as of May 2021). Together with Ilya Levitov, Bareev is the co-author of the acclaimed book From London to Elista.
