Natalia Pogonina is a Russian woman grandmaster and two-time national champion. She has three gold medals in Women’s Chess Olympiads, including two with team Russia in 2012 and 2014, along with individual gold in 2012 on the reserve board. She also earned team gold medals at the 2008 World Mind Sport Games and the 2011 Women’s European Team Chess Championship. Earlier in her career, Pogonina won the 1998 Russian under-14 girls championship and took two gold medals at the European Youth Chess Championships (under-16 in 2000 and under-18 in 2003). For much of the 2000s, Pogonina has been ranked among the top 20 or 30 women in the world.
