Bio

GM Peter Heine Nielsen is a Danish grandmaster living in Lithuania who is the longtime lead second for World Champion Magnus Carlsen. Prior to working with Carlsen, Nielsen was a second for the previous world champion, GM Viswanathan Anand.

After earning the GM title in 1994, Nielsen became five-time national champion of Denmark, winning the title (which is awarded in a tournament held annually) in 1996, 1999, 2001, 2003, and 2008. Perhaps his most notable international tournament was sole first place at Hastings 2002/03.

Nielsen remains Denmark's highest-rated player, with a rating of 2618 (as of December 2021).
