Zhu Chen is a Qatari grandmaster and the ninth women's world champion. Born in China, Zhu became her birth-country's 13th grandmaster and the first Chinese player to win an international competition. She obtained Qatari citizenship in 2006 and has represented the country since then.

In 1992 and 1994, she won the Chinese national women's individual title. Again in 1994, Zhu won the World Junior Girls Chess Championship, a feat she repeated two years later. She also won the Chinese national individual championship in 1996. Her biggest achievement came in 2001 when she defeated GM Alexandra Kosteniuk to become the women's world champion.
