Zoltan Almasi is a Hungarian grandmaster and one of the best players in his country. He has represented Hungary in the Olympiads 13 times and has won the Hungarian chess championship nine times (1995, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009, and 2019).

Almasi also won the 2008 Reggio Emilia tournament and the 2010 European Rapid Chess Championship. In 2013, he won the Capablanca Memorial held in Havana.
