The dictates of reason demand
that the challenge of any opponent stands

they also demand that to advance a score
the opponent's rating be at yours or more

true- play is pleasurable and the wait may be long
waiting for the server to abort may seem wrong

but it feels even worse to fall before
a stroke of genius of a lower score.
