GOREY vs SKERRIES – 15 Feb. 2014 – IRL TEAM Champ.- 1h.45’ finish

Dermott MURPHY vs David REMENYIK

1.e4 e6 Delayed P centre, keeping P structure FLEXible plus unbalanced…

2.Nf3 b6 Setting P structure so as to free both Bs…

3.Bb5? a6 Chasing away B, though there was NO need, …Bb7 seems more natural…

4.Bd3? Bb7 Activating Q’s B along fianchetto diagonal, with pressure on light squares…

5.0-0 Nf6 NOT most FLEXible development, for e5 advace might be a problem, though playable

6.Ne5? d6 Just winning development tempi plus allowing a developing square for Q’s N…

7.Nc4 Nxe4 Winning a P plus commanding full centre with clear advantage…

8.Bxe4? Bxe4 Now Black enjoys B pair…

9.d3 Bb7 Back to save haven, with full Ctrl of ranging diagonal, eyeing opponent’s castling…

10.a4 Nd7 Developing safely in behind P structure…

11.b4 Be7 Preparing possible castling plus activating K’s B…

12.Bb2 Bf6 Opposing active B improving centre Ctrl…

13.c3 0-0 K into safety…

14.a5? b5 Applying ‘zipper’ strategy plus gaining space and tempo…

15.Nd2 Ne5 Placing powerful piece on centre anchored by own P structure…

16.d4 Nd7 Keeping N either to support …e5 or …c5 thrust.

17.Qc2 e5 Finally deciding for centre thrust…

18.dxe5? Bxe5 Now both Bs TarGeT White’s castling…

19.Re1 Re8 Seemingly already with decisive advantage, though 19…Qh4! Is more direct…

20.Re3 Qg5 Hammering castling so as to provoke further weaknesses…

21.g3? Bf4! Nice in-between MOVE with several winning options…

22.h4 Qg4 Entering further into White’s holes…

23.Kh2? Rxe3 Everything wins, though …Qxh4! is mate in 2.

24.Nf1 Bxg3+ 25.fxg3 Re2+ 26.Qxe2+ Qxe2+ 27.Kg1 Qg2++

0-1

Gorey won 3 vs 2, so we may say our Jnr saved the day!!

NO doubt, one of the Jnr rising players in Wexford County with most promising talent…

I still remember your defences when you played for CE Valls, similar to the game above: 1...e6, 2...a6, 3...b5. I copied you ideas but I lost most of the games Laughing. I hope David has better future than me!
