Hi everyone
I would like to say a few words about the various chess matches over the past few weeks.
Firstly I would like to congratulate the Gorey Team and their Captain, Stephen Considine who made their debut in competitive chess on Saturday 8th November in the O'Sullivan Cup. The team won a very close contest against Malahide by 3-2 with the younger players showing winning ways and would appear to show excellent promise for the future. There is no doubt but that players who lost will benefit from experience and will win games to come. Congratulations to all concerned on a fine performance!
The Gorey BEA Team had 2 tough matches over the past few weeks. We met a very strong Gonzaga team who outranked us on every board bar Board 1. Undoubtedly the star performance came from John Halpenny on Board 5 who beat a 1591 rated player rated 600 points ahead of John ! Congratulations to John on a truly great win. Manuel's draw on Board 1 gave the team a total of 1.5 points from this difficult match.
The team had yet another draw in their match against Rathmines but it was agreed that a draw was a fair result overall. John Lacy played a very impressive game to score a valuable win whilst Manuel also won and Syd drew.

The O'Sullivan team have a match on the 6th December whilst the BEA team after a hectic few weeks have a rest from competitive chess until January.

Regards to all
