In the game of chess, options are everywhere.  Picking the right option and move is important to the development of the game.  Trying to determine what your opponent will counter with is what the game is designed to do.  This is similar in the real world as well, knowing when to take advantage of opportunities and creating opportunities for yourself are decisions that we make every day.  Sometimes the decisions are well thought out, and sometimes they are decisions that Homer Simpson would even question. 

When faced with multiple options determining which one to take is just like determining what path to take in our lives.  Just like in chess we think which move is the best to give us that pretty little “Checkmate.”  No chess player ever wants to resign, but the determined chess player will set up his/her board again and start a new game.   We do not go through the events in our lives on a chess board like Alice did in Through the Looking Glass, but sometimes it feels like we do.  Keep your options open and you too might find what Robert Frost said in, The Road Not Taken:

 Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth.

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same.

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
