Depression and Concentration

For those of us who suffer from depression, playing lightning chess is a good way to 1) distract ourselves from the pain and 2) measure our concentration level by how many points we lose in our rating over the course of the depression.  Mine was fairly severe last month (with added pain from a herniated disk) and I lost over 100 points off my 1200 rating.  That's a roughly 8% loss.  Measuring concentration is a good way to measure the severity of the depression, of course.

Well, it sounds like you have the pattern you like.  I wouldn't drink so much when I'm depressed, though.  Dirnking makes you more depressed.  Sorry.

Everytime I am depressed, I get drunk and play chess.  Usually my rating goes down to 50 points the least. The following day I managed to get back some 30 points at least.  Then I get drunk and my rating goes down again even when I played with lower rates player.

Me, too.  It's still exciting to play with a 2+1 time control for me.  How low does your rating get?

When I am depressed, I usually lose. This soars my depression more.
