Friendly game at work
Chess.com has been a hit with some of the folks (male and female) at the office. I recently played a game against a group at work. The group played the black pieces while I played as white. We tried to use chess.com's vote chess feature to host the game but it wasn't a great fit for our needs. For one, the time controls wouldn't have worked over a weekend unless we selected a three days per move setting which would have resulted in a very long game.
It was an interesting experiment. The team's average rating on chess.com is about 1250-1300. By consulting each other during the game the team was able to avoid many obvious mistakes. At the start of the game I expected the group's play to be the best of its strongest player. That is, so long as the group played soundly. A low-tech approach (wooden set) surficed.
