NIKOLA super computer chess engine is a new technology based on the CUDA by Nvidia that is specifically designed to outperform the current solutions of supercomputers which are available now or which could be created in time to come. The AI machine developed by CPUTER runs a huge number of GPU's and uses complex algorithms that have dynamic parallel architecture of computing. http://nikolachess.com

Introduction

The earliest versions of chess can be traced back to the 6th century AD and the territories of ancient India, Afghanistan and Iran. The word chess itself is derived from the Persian word shah or king. It is believed that Muslim traders brought this game to the medieval Europe around the 9th century. In the 15th century the basic rules of the modern chess were introduced for the first time in Italy and Spain. Since then chess has become the inevitable part of human history and technical development. This game has often been associated with intelligence, strategy, and logic. Chess has never been only about the game or amusement itself. This game has always been a symbol of prestige for both individuals and countries, even social systems. Thanks to its complexity chess had found very early its truly deserved place in theoretical mathematics and game theory. The number of possible positions in chess is between 10^43 and 10^47 with the 10^123 for the game-tree complexity.

As expected the introduction and development of the first computers and AI (Artificial Intelligence) could not possibly avoid the chess itself. The very first chess-playing machines and chess programs followed closely the introduction of the earliest computers. However, the dream of matching the human's brain capabilities for chess combination remains the greatest challenge for these programs. Until now.

Introducing Nikola

Nikola is a last generation supercomputer chess engine based on CUDA technology developed by Nvidia. Project Nikola has one purpose only and that is to make a dream come true of finding a missing like in computerized chess - human strategy. Nikola represent the final stage in chess versions based on AI the science and true chess fans have been anticipating all of this time. This supercomputer solution is to mark a new era of computer chess engines unprecedented and unparalleled in human history. Chess represents at the same time the first and final test which AI has to pass in order to get recognition for its potentials and achievements.

Nikola's Mission

Nikola has not been designed to outmatch a greatest human chess player who ever lived. This is too simple task for it. Nikola's main goal is to become the undisputed and absolute king among chess engines ever developed on our planet.

What's So Great About Nikola?

Nikola successfully combines both powerful name and mighty characteristics. Nikola is one the most respected saints of the Christian world. Nikola Tesla was one of the greatest inventors of our time. Nikola which is introduced in this way will be the greatest chess supercomputer ever built in human history. For this purpose only the most complex microprocessor ever developed with over 7.1 billion transistors will be used such as Kepler GPU. It is no surprise that these Kepler cards are more known under a name Nvidia Tesla cards. Each of these K20 cards has 4.58 teraflop peak single precision and 320 Gigabytes per second memory bandwidth. The world fastest computer Titan uses 18,688 NVIDIA Tesla K20X GPU accelerator units. However, the Nikola itself has no intention of stopping there.

Nikola challenges this and any other supercomputer Titans. Nikola will use RDMA or a direct memory access which allows interaction from the memory of one computer into that of another without involving either one's operating system. This permits high-throughput, low-latency networking, which is especially useful if millions of computers worldwide interconnect into a huge cluster. In other words, Nikola will allow uniting all chess computers with CUDA supported cards of the world into one gigantic cluster for this purpose. Additionally, Nikola will use new parallel algorithms never used before. They are based on CUDA which a C-like language that allows programmers to "easily" port their code for use on the GPU. Thanks to CUDA it will be possible for Nikola to use direct parallel storage architecture and media storage parallel file system (PFS).

What Can Be Done For Nikola?

Up to date there are no more than 6 or 7 men databases available in the world. Nikola's goal is to include 32 men databases which will allow it to benefit from the direct parallel storage architecture as being previously described. It has emphasized that a use of this type of supercomputers can cost a fortune in terms of time for the academic purposes and researches. On the other side, its contribution will be undoubtedly a historical one. In addition, it is very hard to rely on the government's support in financing for one simple reason. If this kind of help is to be accepted, that will prevent any potential use of the results of research for commercial purposes including difficulties to support the further development.

Digital Architecture of The Future

The first rule of chess is the last rule of chess: "Two kings can never be placed on adjacent squares". As in life also in a chess game it is possible to know how something will start and how it might end, but it is impossible to predict with the absolute accuracy how it is going to develop and actually end. Nikola's game tree grows from the both sides of a chess table and both opponents. Albert Einstein introduced time and space wormhole in order to quickly connect two points in the universe. Nikola will use a "wormhole algorithm" (patent pending) and other massively parallel approaches in its computing model as a shortcut between black and white figures in order to solve a mystery of chess game's middle game in a matter of a few seconds. The invitation is open to all people of good will not only to participate, but also to build the history with their own hands. Anyone is invited to join the forces with the Nikola’s developers for the benefit of this project. Nikola Tesla was a great inventor, definitely one of the greatest. Even more could have been achieved, if more support had been available for this project. This appeal is not to allow to Nikola supercomputer to share the same fate of a genius left alone. On the line is the greatest scientific achievement and invention of all times. This project is meant to be perfect with the greatest anticipations about its future and development.
