2014-2015 Garden State Chess League Playoffs
The Garden State Chess League has a history online going back as far as 2009. The Lehigh Valley Chess Club has a history of being included in this league since the 2013-2014 season. Thanks to the discussion that started at the 2013 USATE Championships between the two organizations. Statten Island, NY, had played in the 2012-2013 season and so we asked to try it out to play in the Fall of 2013. Happily, we were able to join in and enjoy playing a very competitive, but friendly group of chess players.
The first year was challenging and we enjoyed the open format of playing all 8 teams and finished 3rd overall. The second year has been a challenge with 2 divisions, the Edgar McCormick (East) and Steve Ferrero (West) in honor of 2 popular past NJ chess advocates and players.
Chess is played by players at all levels and in a chess league players at get to challenge themselves against comparable competition from Board's 1-4 each month. In this league the 4-player board average can not exeed 1925.
I have included the final playoff match games for Team 1st and 2nd Place with some analysis played on May 12th, 2015. The games here are about the challenges that average players enjoy by playing in the league and in the end that it is about the coming together and promoting chess in our communities to people who love the game.
